The National Union of Taraba State Students (NUTAS), University of Jos Chapter, on Wednesday petitioned the Taraba State government, requesting the immediate evacuation of students from areas affected by rising security challenges.
In a letter addressed to Governor Agbu Kafes of Taraba State, the union cited growing fears for the safety and well‑being of students currently residing in unsafe environments.
The letter, signed by its President, Sankun Solomon Gam, and Assistant Secretary‑General Samuel Anyar Bawun Bente, emphasised the urgent need for government intervention to protect students and reassure their families.
“Many students are currently exposed to unsafe conditions, and there is increasing fear and uncertainty among them and their families,” the letter stated.
Appealing for swift relocation to safer areas, the union highlighted that safeguarding students’ lives aligns with the state government’s responsibility to protect its citizens, particularly the youth who represent Taraba State’s future.
NUTAS expressed confidence in the governor’s responsiveness and called for prompt action to address the matter, emphasising that timely evacuation would demonstrate the government’s commitment to the welfare of its indigenes.
