Rivers APC Crisis: Court reserves ruling on suit challenging LG chairmanship candidatures

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has reserved ruling in a suit filed by the chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, under the Emeka Beke-led faction of the party in the August 30 local government elections.

The case was instituted by Fubara Dagogo and eight others against the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

The presiding judge, Justice Stephen Jumbo, reserved ruling until Wednesday, November 5, after hearing arguments from both parties on whether the case was statute-barred.

The claimants are seeking a perpetual injunction restraining RSIEC from recognising or accepting the results of the APC primaries held on August 4, 2025, or any other date.

They argue that they were unlawfully substituted by the party, whose list was forwarded to RSIEC in a letter dated August 7, 2025.

The claimants are asking the court to declare them the authentic winners of the election.

APC in Rivers State remains embroiled in a leadership tussle, with one faction led by Beke and the other by Tony Okocha.
