Rivers Utd secure spot in CAF Champions League group stage

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Rivers United have secured a spot in the CAF Champions League group stage after a successful qualification race.

The Portharcourt side clinched their spot after a 3-1 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique on Saturday evening.

Finidi George’s side won the second preliminary round tie 3-2 on aggregate, having lost 1-0 in the first leg last week.

Wasiu Falolu opened scoring for Rivers United in the 15th minute.

The hosts doubled their lead from the spot through Maclyn Biokpo three minutes before the break.

Moctar Diallo reduced the deficit for Black Bulls two minutes after the break, but Rivers got their third through Timothy Zacharia on 76 minutes.

Nigeria’s other representative in the competition Remo Stars will take on South African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday. Remo trails 5-1 from the first leg.
