Russia has delivered humanitarian assistance to Iran as tensions intensify in the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

The development was disclosed in a post shared by the Russian Embassy in Kenya on its official X account, stating that Moscow had dispatched medical supplies to support Iran during the crisis.

According to the statement, an Ilyushin Il‑76 cargo aircraft transported more than 13 tonnes of medical aid to Azerbaijan, from where the supplies are expected to be transferred to Iranian authorities.

The embassy described the shipment as emergency medical materials and first-aid supplies intended to assist civilians affected by the conflict.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Iran’s newly installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and reiterated Moscow’s support for Tehran amid growing regional pressure.

In a message released by the Kremlin, Putin welcomed Khamenei’s emergence as Iran’s top religious and political leader and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the country through the current crisis.

The Russian leader also acknowledged the legacy of the late Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying he believed the new leader would continue the path established by his predecessor.

Putin further reaffirmed Russia’s strategic partnership with Iran, stating Moscow’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with Tehran in the face of mounting geopolitical tensions.

According to the Kremlin, the Russian president expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would continue his father’s work “with honour” while uniting the Iranian people during what he described as a difficult period.

The message also reiterated Russia’s solidarity with Iran, with Putin assuring that Moscow would continue to stand by Tehran.

The humanitarian aid delivery comes as the war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel continues to raise tensions across the Middle East, prompting concerns about wider regional instability.

In a related development, the United States recently eased certain restrictions on Iranian oil exports, citing the need to stabilise global crude oil prices amid disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict.
