Ogun State government has demolished all shanties and temporary buildings on the road setback along the border between Ogun and Lagos states as part of efforts to end the ongoing traffic accidents at the Sango Tollgate.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Kafayat Lawal, who led the exercise on Tuesday, stated that the demolition was done following multiple warnings and notices to the street vendors to leave the area.

Lawal disclosed that the traders were provided an alternative place at the Plaza Road, Sango, adding that the demolition would stop street trading around the area and prevent avoidable death in the area

He said, “The exercise will free the Tollgate and Under bridge street trading which frequently leads to loss of life when there are mishaps around the area which has become source of worry to the state government and well-meaning Nigerians.

“The state government will therefore not fold its hands and allow street trading in the Tollgate area which has led to avoidable loss of life and permanent disabilities due to its danger.”

He warned that anyone caught peddling at the tollgate and under bridge areas would be subject to the full force of the law and advised the traders to relocate to the new market that the state government, in collaboration with the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government and Olota-in Council, had built for them.
