
The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has indicated that the state is implementing federal government policies designed to rejig the curriculum to ensure that students achieve optimal performance.
The federal government recently released approved subject offerings for Nigeria’s newly revised Basic and Senior Secondary Education Curriculum.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, signed by its Executive Secretary, Professor Salisu Shehu, the reforms are designed to reduce curriculum overload and ensure positive learning outcomes for pupils. The reforms mark a new phase in Nigeria’s education sector, emphasising relevance, flexibility, and skill acquisition from the earliest stages of learning.
While monitoring the first term resumption in the Remo, Ijebu and Egba axes of the state on Tuesday, the Ogun commissioner assured that all necessary mechanisms had been put in place to enhance teaching and improve knowledge transfer.
He highlighted measures including the massive supply of furniture to all flagship schools, the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms and laboratories, and the provision of modern office and toilet facilities to make the teaching and learning process more conducive.
Prof. Arigbabu also commended an SS3 student of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Jesulayomi Ògúndìjo, who had made the state proud by winning several medals at national and international school sports competitions. He urged other students to emulate such zeal, not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities.
“We will continue as a government to put in place structures and facilities that will enable us achieve the Education Revitalisation Agenda, as we will also continue to deliver on our promises to ensure the education sector of our dear State is taken to a higher pedestal,” Arigbabu affirmed.
In their separate remarks, the principals of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu Ode, and Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School, Imodi-Mosan, Odogbolu, Mr Alaba Olúgbewésà and Mrs Adebisi Ògúnsóbò, noted that learners’ turnout was impressive, with school activities already in full swing, including environmental cleaning and welcome tests.
Schools visited included Ifesowapo High School, Imodi-Mosan, Odogbolu; Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Obalende, Ijebu-Ode; Ijebu-Ode Grammar School; Moslem Comprehensive High School, Ijebu-Ode; Moslem Primary School, Ososa; St James Anglican Primary School, Iperu Remo; Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu; Orile Igonre Grammar School, Ajura; and Abeokuta Grammar School.
