The Katsina State Government has said that security forces rescued 21 kidnapped persons and arrested four suspects during an operation in the Dargaza Hills, Danmusa Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and Community Watch Corps.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mua’zu, said the operation was intelligence-led and resulted in the safe rescue of the victims.
He added that four suspects had been arrested and were undergoing investigation.
According to him, “The rescued victims include 16 women, two men and three babies who were kidnapped from Gidan Sarkin Bayero Village in Musawa Local Government Area and other places.
“Twenty of the victims are Christians, while two are Muslims. This shows that bandits attack people without considering religion, and the government is committed to protecting all citizens.”
He disclosed that the security team targeted the hideout of a known bandit leader, Kamilu Chiroma, also known as Buzaru, in the Dargaza Hills.
“This successful rescue shows how effective intelligence-based operations and cooperation among our security agencies can be,” he said.
He assured residents that the arrested suspects would face the law once investigations had been concluded.
The government also reiterated Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s commitment to ending banditry and restoring peace in Katsina State, and commended the DSS, army, police and Community Watch Corps for their professionalism and courage during the mission.
