The timely intervention of firefighters prevented a weekend fire outbreak from spreading to nearby buildings in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
The blaze, which occurred on Saturday in the Jeka Da Fari area of the state capital, was contained before it could cause extensive damage to surrounding structures.
According to the Taraba State Command of the Federal Fire Service, the swift response helped save properties worth about N50 million.
Although items valued at approximately N20 million were destroyed in the incident, the fire service confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded.
In a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sylvanus Mikailu, the fire incident was reported at about 9:16 am through the National Emergency line (112), with the alert relayed by the National Communications Commission.
Preliminary investigations, the statement said, indicate that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge.
The spokesperson explained that the incident affected a seven-bedroom residential building measuring about 100 by 100 feet, belonging to Danladi Gwampo.
“Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, the team carried out a rapid assessment and began an aggressive firefighting operation,” the statement said.
The operation, according to the statement, was supported by the Taraba State Fire Service, while operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army provided security cover at the scene.
