Christian leaders in Sokoto State have, in the face of escalating security challenges, called for urgent action on insecurity, stronger unity among believers, and a renewed spirit of sacrifice as they marked the 2026 Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace.
Organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the event was held on Monday at the Deeper Life Bible Church and drew participants from across denominations, who gathered to pray for peace in the state and the country.
The CAN chairman in Sokoto State, Rev. Kayode Moses James, explained that the resurrection of Jesus Christ offers hope amid growing security concerns in the country.
He said, “Jesus is alive. The grave could not hold Him, and that victory gives us confidence that peace can return to our land.”
He described the gathering as both a faith declaration and a collective appeal for peace, emphasising that it is not just a celebration, but a call for unity and a cry for divine intervention in Sokoto and Nigeria.
James lamented the impact of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks in parts of the country, noting that communities across the North continue to face fear and displacement.
He observed that lives have been lost and families displaced, urging the government and security agencies to act decisively to protect citizens.
The chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Sokoto State, Pastor Ben Musa, stated at the event that the Easter gathering reinforces Christian unity and brings believers together under one umbrella.
Musa stressed that national progress requires sacrifice, drawing from the Easter message, explaining that Christ paid the ultimate price and that if Nigerians are to move forward as a nation, they must embrace sacrifice and collective responsibility.
On insecurity, he proposed a three-point response saying that they must intensify prayer, stressing that the government must fulfil its duty to safeguard lives and that citizens must act responsibly.
He noted that when everyone contributes, progress becomes achievable.
