Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has announced that his administration has dismantled 62 criminal camps since he assumed office in 2022.
Speaking to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, Soludo said his government remains relentless in tackling insecurity. “So far since I came into office, about 62 criminal camps have been dismantled in Anambra, and we’re not resting, not one second. I will pride ourselves to be the safest, if not modestly, one of the safest states in the country,” he stated.
While declining to give details on the fate of those arrested, Soludo stressed that his administration would continue to act decisively against criminal groups.
On the sit-at-home order that crippled economic activity in the South-East for nearly five years, Soludo expressed relief that normalcy was returning. He noted that schools and markets, including Onitsha Main Market with over 45,000 shops, are now fully operational on Mondays. “If you saw the joy of the people, tens of thousands chanting and rejoicing that a new dawn has come… you couldn’t even find space to put your feet,” he said.

The governor highlighted the heavy traffic during the 2025 Yuletide as evidence of renewed confidence in security across the state. He also promised to regenerate Onitsha Main Market, restoring its status as West Africa’s premier trading hub.
Soludo acknowledged the devastating economic impact of the sit-at-home directive, estimating that the region lost about 20 per cent of its weekly productivity over several years. He said the directive, introduced by IPOB in 2021 after the arrest of its leader Nnamdi Kanu, had cost the South-East trillions in losses before its official cancellation in February 2026.
He concluded that Anambra is reclaiming its place as a secure and economically vibrant state, while noting that his visit to President Tinubu was not solely about security but also other governance matters.
