Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday paid an unscheduled visit to the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, which houses offices of workers in state ministries.
Soludo, who arrived at about 10 a.m., ordered that the gate be locked to prevent latecomers from accessing the complex.
He indicated plans for significant reforms within the Anambra State civil service after inspecting the state secretariat, where he also assessed employee conduct, punctuality, and overall dedication to duty.
Soludo visited multiple ministries and departments within the complex, taking a headcount of workers who were at their seats at the time of the visit. He said he aimed to evaluate the current work culture and the level of commitment among public servants.
After the visit, the governor wrote: “I just made an unscheduled visit to the State Civil Service Secretariat this morning. I’m not pleased to see that some workers hadn’t arrived for work at 10 a.m.
“But I must commend the dedicated civil servants I met in their respective offices and duty posts. Your diligence is the backbone of our service. Keep pushing!
“To those who didn’t show up: we are watching. We are intentional about building an agile, effective, and productive civil service. If you are not committed, please make way for those who are.”
The governor, who addressed workers after the inspection, warned that his administration would not tolerate inefficiency, stressing that workers unwilling to align with the state’s reform agenda would face consequences.
“Those who do not align with the new vision for the civil service will be exited. Government is determined to instill discipline and improve service delivery.”
