The national football team of Spain have replaced Argentina as the world number one team in men’s football in the latest FIFA ranking.
The UEFA EURO 2024 winners rose one place to 1st, a spot they have not occupied in the men’s game since back in June 2014.
Joining Spain in surpassing the current world champions are the team Argentina beat in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final, France (2nd, up 1).

The latest ranking, released by FIFA on their official website today (Thursday), also saw the Super Eagles of Nigeria drop from 44th spot to 45th.
In the July ranking, the Super Eagles had dropped from 43rd to 44th spot.
As a result, Nigeria are now sixth in Africa behind Morocco (1st), Senegal (2nd), Egypt (3rd), Algeria (4th) and Côte d’Ivoire (5th).
