Speeding car crushes woman to death in Lagos

A speeding car crushed a woman to death in the Igando area of Lagos State on Saturday.

The victim was a member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) and was heading to a church programme when she was hit by a Mercedes-Benz C-300 at the NYSC Bus Stop in Igando.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olajide Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident in a statement in Ikeja.

The statement read: “Upon receipt of distress alerts, LASTMA personnel stationed along the Igando axis responded with commendable alacrity and operational proficiency.

“Demonstrating tactical coordination and adherence to established emergency response protocols, the officers promptly cordoned off the accident scene to forestall secondary collisions and ensure the safety of other road users.”

He said the driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the incident.

“In a deeply reprehensible development, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz C-300 absconded from the scene upon recognising the fatal outcome of the collision.

“His act of flight not only compounds the gravity of the tragedy but also constitutes a flagrant violation of statutory and civic obligations incumbent upon motorists involved in traffic incidents,” the statement added.
