A non-governmental organisation, Population Services International, PSI, Nigeria has revealed that stigma, limited access and misinformation are some of the barriers hindering stress-free menstrual cycle among many adolescents and women in Nigeria.

This assertion was made in a statement issued at the end of a two-day workshop, organised by the organisation for journalists and media influencers in Lagos State.

PSI in the statement, on Wednesday, noted that menstrual health is a public health, gender equality and human rights issue.

It revealed that many adolescents and women, especially in the rural areas, face a lot of challenges during their menstrual cycle.

Some of these challenges enumerated include barriers of stigma, limited access and misinformation.

PSI said, “Recognising menstrual health as a public health, gender equality, and human rights issue, the MH-NoW programme is breaking barriers of stigma, limited access, and misinformation, particularly among adolescent girls and young women.

“The initiative also works to improve hygiene and build agency among women and girls, ensuring they manage menstruation with dignity, safety, and confidence”.
