Nigeria’s Super Falcons took a solid step toward qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 2–0 victory over Benin Republic in the first leg of their qualifier at the Stade de Kégué on Friday.
Chiwendu Ihezuo broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, finishing calmly after receiving a well-placed pass from Deborah Abiodun.
The Falcons kept up the pressure, forcing the Beninese defence to stay alert, but the hosts held their ground for much of the half.

Just before the break, Esther Okoronkwo extended Nigeria’s lead, again thanks to a clever assist from Abiodun, who proved instrumental in both goals.
Nigeria controlled proceedings after the restart, dominating possession and creating several chances, but couldn’t add to their tally.
The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday next week at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, where the Super Falcons will look to complete the job and secure their place in the next round.
