Not fewer than 20 persons have be killed in fresh attacks by suspected arrmed herdsmen on Mbachom community in Jato-Aka, Turan area of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday night when the community was invaded by the armed herdermen.
Local sources said the killing was discoverer on Friday morning when residents and search teams reportedly recovered more than ten bodies from a single household in the community.
The victims are believed to have been killed during an attack allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Residents said search operations are still ongoing as local volunteers comb nearby bushes and surrounding areas for more victims.
Several people who sustained injuries during the attack are currently receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities, while many others are still unaccounted for, raising fears that the casualty figure may rise further.
The incident is said to be different from an earlier attack that occurred on Thursday morning in Mbaav community, located in Mbadura Ward of Turan district in Kwande Local Government Area.
In that earlier assault, at least six residents were reportedly killed.
Later that night, two additional bodies were recovered in Mbachom community, further heightening tensions across the affected settlements.
With the latest discoveries, residents say the combined death toll from the attacks on Mbaav in Mbadura and Mbachom in Yaav Council Ward has now exceeded 20.
As search efforts continue, community members are calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further loss of lives in the troubled area.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP, Udeme Edet was not successful as calls to her mobile telephone were not returned.
