Suspected herders have attacked a farmer in Omademe community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The victim was brutally attacked by the assailants on his farmland on Sunday, November 2, 2025. According to a lawyer, Kelvin Owhorji, this is the latest in a series of violent assaults and crop destruction allegedly carried out by herders against peaceful farmers in the area. He called on the government to urgently intervene before the situation escalates. It is with great shock and anger that we received the news of the brutal attack by the Fulani herdsmen on our dear brother and father who peacefully set out to his farmland to ensure he provides what his family would eat and sustain with, he wrote. "This happened yesterday in the forenoon and this is the most recent amongst other deadly, brutal and unwarranted attacks on our dear peaceful farmers and brothers/sisters. "Their only offense is that they are farmers and each time the herders come to their farmland, they destroy their crops and whatever thing they have planted on the land and when they cry out, they get attacked and cut brutally by the herders. We are running out of patience and we may not tolerate this continued act of violence, destruction and brutality been meted out on our people anymore if the government takes no action to forestall this menace.
