
A suspected vandal was electrocuted to d3ath while allegedly attempting to steal from a power transformer in Omifon community, Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State. According to sources within the community, the yet-to-be-identified suspect was allegedly tampering with the armored cable connected to the transformer when the tragic incident occurred. A resident who confirmed the incident to Hope Newspaper on Sunday, March 1, said the incident occurred last Wednesday. According to the source, there was active electricity supply at the time of the incident. The suspect was electrocuted in the process, as the high-voltage current from the installation proved fatal. He died instantly, the source said. Officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) were alerted and later arrived at the scene to evacuate the body." The development has since sparked concern among residents, many of whom described the incident as shocking and unfortunate. They noted that vandalism of electricity infrastructure remains a persistent challenge in some communities, often resulting in power outages and costly damage to public assets.
