The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has intensified its clampdown on illegal commercial motorcycle operators, impounding 70 motorcycles during a fresh raid along the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the agency confirmed it conducted a cleanup exercise along the Iyana-Iba axis. This follows a similar raid carried out just last weekend, signaling the government’s plan to maintain pressure on those breaking traffic and security laws.
The raid covered key locations along the Lagos–Mile 2–Badagry corridor, including Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, and Iyana-Iba.
During the operation, some commercial motorcycle operators were found riding on restricted routes and blocking traffic, while others were allegedly using their bikes to transport illicit drugs and flammable substances such as PMS to neighboring countries, creating disturbances on major highways and nearby roads.
“During the exercise, some commercial motorcycle operators were found plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic flow. Some of the operators were using okada to transport illicit drugs, flammable substances like PMS to neighboring countries, and generally constituting a nuisance on major highways and adjoining roads,” the statement said.
At the end of the operation, a total of 70 motorcycles were seized, with normalcy restored across the affected areas.
“At the conclusion of the operations, a total of 70 commercial motorcycles were impounded, and sanity was restored across all affected areas,” the statement added.
The Taskforce stated that all impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining the enforcement drive until full compliance is achieved.
“We will not be cowed or surrendered to their illegalities,” he stated.
