TAX: FIRS Secures RMAFC’s Support to Recover Unremitted Revenues

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has inaugurated a six-month revenue recovery exercise in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), aimed at identifying and recovering unremitted funds across various sectors.

The initiative, flagged off on Monday in Abuja under the theme “Engaged Consultants for the Revenue Recovery Exercise,” seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal governance and ensure all revenues due to the federation are fully accounted for.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mohammed Shehu, RMAFC chairman, said the exercise represents a strategic step toward plugging leakages, enhancing transparency, and boosting the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government.

“This is not a routine administrative action, but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the federation is transparently remitted,” Shehu said.

He noted that the project, supported by President Bola Tinubu and the FIRS, aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the commission’s constitutional mandate to safeguard national revenue.

Zacch Adedeji, FIRS chairman, represented by Shettima Tamadi, the agency’s Coordinating Director, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to the initiative, emphasising the importance of inter-agency collaboration in bridging Nigeria’s revenue gap.

“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” Adedeji stated.

RMAFC Secretary, Joseph Okechukwu, urged the engaged consultants to deliver results within the six-month timeframe, ensuring prompt remittance of recovered funds to the Federation Account to support national development priorities.

Responding on behalf of the consultants, Temitayo Ojeleke pledged professionalism, transparency, and measurable outcomes, describing the assignment as a “national call to duty” to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue base.
