Minister of State for Finance-designate, Taiwo Oyedele, has announced that 12 states have already enacted the Federal Government’s new Tax Harmonisation Law, introduced as part of ongoing fiscal reforms.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday at the graduation of 5,900 entrepreneurs trained by the MTN Foundation, Oyedele explained that 13 other states have presented the law to their Houses of Assembly, while several more are at different stages of implementation.
The law, which took effect on January 1, 2026, aims to modernize Nigeria’s tax system, eliminate multiple and nuisance levies, protect citizens from harassment, simplify tax processes, and ensure fairness in tax administration. “The reforms are designed to help businesses thrive, safeguard vulnerable groups, and reset Nigeria’s fiscal framework for economic transformation,” Oyedele said.
