There was pandemonium at the Fruit Market, Oil Mill, Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday following the killing of a trader, an indigene of Mbagel Village, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, identified as Higightor Wenem.

CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, made the incident known to journalists in a statement on Saturday.

She explained that the trader, while attempting to create space for his goods in the market, asked a wheelbarrow pusher identified as Zakara Afaaruwu to shift his wheelbarrow that was obstructing his goods.

The suspect, however, declined, leading to a heated argument that led to the death of the trader.

The argument, according to the police, subsequently escalated and the wheelbarrow pusher stabbed the victim with a dagger.

The PPRO said the trader was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital for medical attention but he was “confirmed dead by the medical Doctor”.

She said the suspect is currently in custody and investigation is still ongoing.
