Panic has gripped the Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following a daring Wednesday evening raid by terrorists that left one person dead and government infrastructure in ruins.
The assault, which underscores the escalating security challenges in the state, saw a gang of six gunmen infiltrate the community under the cover of dusk, targeting both individuals and institutional symbols.
The primary target of the incursion was a dedicated local hunter. According to community residents, the assailants moved with lethal precision, overpowering the hunter while he was actively on duty.
The victim, popularly known as Baba Ibeji, was killed during the confrontation. His brother, who was accompanying him at the time of the ambush, narrowly escaped with his life but is reported to have sustained injuries during the frantic struggle.
Following the killing of the hunter, the terrorists reportedly turned their sights on a nearby Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) facility. Sources within the community revealed that the office was “unmanned at the time,” allowing the gunmen to vandalize and ransack the building without immediate intervention.

The trail of destruction extended, as the assailants targeted the local economy. A Point of Sale (PoS) outlet in the vicinity was reportedly broken into and destroyed, further heightening the sense of vulnerability among local small business owners.
The local source who confirmed the incident on Thursday morning expressed deep concern over the brazen nature of the attack, particularly the targeting of a known security volunteer like the late hunter.
While the Kwara State Police Command and the NSCDC leadership are expected to provide formal statements on the breach, residents of Oro-Ago are left grappling with the aftermath of a night that turned a peaceful community into a battlefield.
