Nigerian singer Terry G has spoken out in support of Burna Boy as reactions continue to trail the viral video of the Grammy winner sending out a couple who appeared to be sleeping during his concert performance.
The incident, which took place at one of Burna Boy’s recent shows, sparked widespread backlash and reportedly led some fans to boycott his upcoming concerts. But Terry G has now weighed in, questioning why anyone would attend a live show only to fall asleep.
In a video response, Terry G argued that people are quick to criticize celebrities simply because they are in the spotlight. He noted that in other environments, such as churches, ushers would immediately wake up anyone found sleeping, yet the public expects a musician to overlook similar behaviour during a live performance.
He suggested that moments like these are often captured by cameras and used unfairly to portray an artist in a negative light.
Terry G defend Burna Boy saying: “Una too like to dey hold people accountable just because dem don be public figure. If this thing happen for church and person dey sleep, pastors go tell ushers to wake am. But because he’s a musician, you go his show to sleep so camera fit capture am and spoil his performance.”
“If it happened in a church and someone was found sleeping, would the pastors not ask the ushers to wake them up, Because he’s musician, you are going to his show to sleep, so the camera can capture that moment and spoil his show”
