President of the African Development Bank Group, Akinwumi Adesina, has paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari died on Sunday in London, United Kingdom, while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, having been unwell for some time.
He served as President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 and was widely accused of leading the country into economic hardship.
During his presidency, Buhari spent at least 225 days outside Nigeria on medical trips.
His longest medical absence was in May 2017, when he travelled to London for treatment, staying for 104 days.
The nature of Buhari’s illness was never publicly disclosed, but Nigerians were asked to “pray” for him.
Adesina wrote on X: “I am greatly saddened by the passing of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Thank you for your leadership, patriotism and selfless service to Nigeria. Thank you for your love and support for me. May God comfort your dear wife and family. May your soul rest in peace.”
