MK Dons Women’s captain Favour Omenazu has decided to play for Nigeria instead of England ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Omenazu was eligible to represent England but has chosen to play for her father’s homeland.

Her father previously played as a goalkeeper, while she plays as a midfielder, continuing the football tradition in her family.

She has been described by her team officials as a very talented and versatile player who can perform well in different positions, and she is considered the top right-back in the fourth tier of English football.

When asked if she had considered representing Nigeria on the international stage, Omenazu said that wearing her country’s colours is one of her main goals.

She told AYSuga Channel, “It would be a proud moment because that’s where I’m from; that’s where my family is from.

“Everyone at home would be eager to attend any games and help in any way they could, and it would really mean a lot to me to give back to my heritage and where I’m from. So it would be amazing.

“The interest has always been about more than just playing at the highest level. One of my goals is to play for my country’s team, stand for my nation, and perform well.”

Omenazu said she is primarily a midfielder, although she has had some of her best moments playing as a right-back.

That is the role she was often given because of her physical strength and technical skills.

A product of Leicester City, the versatile midfielder has played for Bugbrooke St Michaels, Northampton Town, and Stourbridge before moving to MK Dons.
