The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, along with other party leaders, was assaulted by armed thugs.
The incident occurred at the party’s secretariat during a violent disruption of a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday.
DAILY POST gathered that the armed thugs arrived at the venue and attacked attendees present.
Shortly after the incident, Adetimehin was seen on the ground, surrounded by others, as the situation unfolded.
Adetimehin’s phones were reportedly taken by the hoodlums, who allegedly accused him of acting against the instructions of the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Speaking after the incident, Adetimehin said, “They beat the hell out of me.” He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting had been scheduled for February 17, 2026, and that the governor had personally called him earlier to brief him. He added that the National Secretariat, the Congress Committee, and the Appeal Committee had mutually agreed that the meeting would proceed as planned.
“Suddenly, the thugs stormed the meeting, assaulted me and several others, and ordered us to vacate the venue. They kept saying that the governor owns the party and that nobody can challenge his authority.
“We told them that we were not challenging the governor’s authority but were simply participating in a duly agreed stakeholders’ meeting. I was violently beaten, thrown to the ground, and my phones were seized and damaged. I have reported the incident to the state Commissioner of Police for a thorough investigation.”
It was reported that Governor Aiyedatiwa and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Nigerian Minister of Interior, are currently in a struggle over control of the APC structure in Ondo State.
