Tinubu appoints Babalola Special Adviser on Power

 President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Rilwan Babalola as Special Adviser on Power.

Babalola will also head the newly constituted Presidential Taskforce on Power Sector Reset and Restoration.

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

The President also redesignated the Office of the Special Adviser (Energy) as Special Adviser (Oil and Gas) to streamline roles within the energy governance framework.

Babalola, a former Minister of Power, brings extensive sectoral expertise and experience in addressing structural challenges in the electricity value chain.

The Presidency said the appointment underscores the president’s resolve to drive a results-oriented reset of the power sector.

It said the Presidential Taskforce would operate under a direct mandate to restore efficiency, discipline and commercial viability across the sector.

The taskforce will also coordinate activities among relevant ministries, departments and agencies.

Its mandate includes driving a comprehensive system reset of the electricity sector and implementing a “performance before expansion” framework.

It is also expected to reduce technical, commercial and collection losses, while strengthening cost discipline and tariff integrity.

The taskforce will enhance revenue assurance, improve sector liquidity and restore grid discipline and market integrity.
