Tinubu’s presidency a ‘bad market’, APC has failed Nigerians — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing it as a “bad market” and warning that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be decisively rejected by Nigerians in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Monday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the party was undergoing strategic internal reforms and preparing to offer a credible alternative that reflects the yearnings of Nigerians.

“This is a government that tells people to fast while they are feasting. No patriotic or humane Nigerian, no political group or party that truly feels the pain of the people, will support President Tinubu in 2027. His presidency is a bad market,” Ologunagba declared.

The PDP accused the Tinubu-led government of overseeing a steady decline in Nigeria’s economy and social fabric, citing deepening hardship, inflation, insecurity, and infrastructural decay as evidence of failure.

“I was at the airport yesterday, on a Sunday evening, from Lagos to Abuja. The airport was empty. I told a friend, this is a reflection of the economy. The plane was half full, yet fares have increased. This is the reality under Tinubu,” Ologunagba shared, using his personal travel experience as a metaphor for the country’s economic challenges.

He further accused the APC of losing touch with grassroots realities and mismanaging the nation’s resources.

“They are fuelling crises in opposition parties and mismanaging the economy to the extent that infrastructure and public services are crumbling,” he said.

The PDP also took aim at the government’s handling of security, referencing recent incidents of violence and political intimidation.

“Insecurity has become a new normal,” Ologunagba stated, citing the killings in Plateau State and the reported assault on a PDP candidate from Anambra in Abuja.

Despite elite defections, Ologunagba stressed that the PDP remains deeply rooted across Nigeria, with a loyal and resilient grassroots base.

“Our strength is in the people. Despite elite defections, our grassroots membership remains intact. People are not defecting because of the hunger and insecurity they face. They are standing by the PDP because we connect with their reality,” he said.

He pointed to performance in PDP-controlled states as a sign of the party’s credibility and governance potential.

“Go to Osun, Oyo, Bayelsa; do a peer review of PDP-controlled states. Look at what we’ve achieved in agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure. Even in Rivers, before recent challenges, there was measurable progress. Compare that to APC states like Kogi and you’ll see the difference,” Ologunagba argued.

The PDP spokesperson also referenced the recently concluded local government elections in Lagos State as evidence of growing voter apathy under the APC.

“If APC is as strong as they say, turnout in Lagos wouldn’t have been 6%. Even their own leaders admitted that the people didn’t vote for them. Nigerians are tired, and in 2027, they’ll express it clearly at the ballot,” he noted.

Ologunagba provided updates on the PDP’s upcoming 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for July 23–25, 2025, which he said would focus on critical party matters ahead of the national convention.

“All NEC members, as provided for in our Constitution, Section 31, Subsection 1, are invited and expected at the 101st NEC meeting. INEC has been duly notified. We are guided by our Constitution and the rule of law in all our processes,” he said.

Concluding the briefing, Ologunagba reaffirmed the PDP’s readiness to offer competent and compassionate leadership, pledging that the party remains the most viable platform to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.

“PDP is the only party that can unseat the APC; not just by talk, but by structure, by legacy, by reach, and by impact. Nigerians are calling on us to come together and rescue this nation from the misrule of this reckless and insensitive APC regime,” he declared.

As the 2027 elections inch closer, the PDP says it is confident that Nigerians will rally behind it to restore hope, rebuild the economy, and reclaim national dignity.
