President Bola Tinubu has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to leverage Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory and select constituencies in Kano and Rivers states to reinforce public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
The President’s advice covers the conduct of the six area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, alongside bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II State constituencies of Rivers State, as well as the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
President Tinubu also appealed to voters, security agencies, and INEC officials to maintain order and professionalism throughout the polls.
INEC is scheduled to conduct elections across the six FCT area councils and the identified constituencies in Rivers and Kano states.
Encouraging widespread participation, the President urged eligible voters to turn out without fear, noting that democracy flourishes best in an environment marked by calm, tolerance, and mutual respect.
He further called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid violence, inflammatory rhetoric, or any actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.

The President warned against intimidation, disenfranchisement, or any form of high-handed conduct that could weaken public trust, stressing that security personnel have been deployed to safeguard lives, property, and the sanctity of the ballot.
Tinubu also tasked INEC with implementing all necessary measures to boost voter confidence, including prompt accreditation, seamless voting, accurate collation, and timely transmission of results in accordance with the 2026 Electoral Act.
“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
“To all residents of the FCT, Kano and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation,” the President added.
