Transportation minister resigns, joins Gombe governorship race

The Minister of Transportation, Sa’idu Alkali, has resigned ahead of Tuesday’s resignation deadline for public office holders with 2027 election ambition.

The ex-minister met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja. on Tuesday to brief him on the development.

Alkali is among cabinet members who have resigned to pursue elective offices ahead of 2027 general elections, in compliance with President Tinubu’s directive.

Sources told journalists the closed-door meeting was “linked to the ex-minister’s next political move in Gombe State.”

Alkali  is reportedly eyeing Gombe governorship race ahead of next electoral cycle.

He joins a growing list of former cabinet members, including Amb. Yusuf Tuggar (Bauchi) and Yusuf Sununu (Kebbi), both former ministers.

The President  had earlier directed ministers with political ambitions to resign on or before March 31.
