Joint security personnel in Benue State have apprehended two suspected herders and confiscated several animals during an operation carried out on Tuesday in Agwabi Village, Buruku Local Government Area.

According to security officials, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Buruku received a report around 2:00 p.m. from the Chairman of Buruku LGA, Mr. Raymond Aondoakura Zege, regarding the presence of Fulani herders grazing openly in the community contrary to existing regulations.

Acting on the information, the DPO deployed a combined patrol team made up of police officers, soldiers, operatives of Operation Anyam Nyor, and members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards to the location.

Upon reaching the area, the team arrested two individuals, Ali Abubakar and Yahaya Bello, and seized 22 cows along with 17 sheep.

The arrested suspects and the recovered livestock were subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry.

Local community leaders explained that the enforcement exercise was carried out to avert potential conflicts between farmers and herders.

They also urged authorities to continue implementing grazing laws strictly to sustain peace and security in the area.
