Troops kill three ISWAP commanders in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed three commanders of the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

The theatre command added that the terrorists were killed in an attempted ambush in Cross-Kauwa, in the Lake Chad region.

The slain terrorists were identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, an unidentified Munzir, and one Abu Aisha, Qaid of Tumbun Mota.

The troops also killed eight terrorists in a similar operation on Monday.

The statement read: “In the first encounter on 15 September 2025, at about 8:00 a.m., troops of Sector 3 on a scanning and picketing patrol along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route in Kukawa Local Government Area were ambushed by terrorists who detonated a Command Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and opened fire on the patrol team.

“A gun battle ensued after the bomb blast and forced the terrorists to flee with varying degrees of injuries. At least 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles with magazines, rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, anti-aircraft, several blankets, and other sundry items, including drugs, were recovered in the operation.”
