Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested three suspected militia members and recovered dozens of rustled cattle during an operation in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Details of the incident were shared in a post on X on Friday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.
According to the post, troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE, deployed in Sector 6 at Dokku, responded to a report of cattle rustling behind Makera market at about 5:00 p.m. on April 22.
On arrival, the soldiers launched a search and rescue operation, tracking the movement of the stolen livestock to a riverine area.
“The troops were able to recover a total of 84 cattle, which were later returned to their rightful owner,” Makama wrote.
Security sources also said three suspects believed to be involved in the rustling were arrested during the operation and are currently in military custody for further investigation.
The incident is the latest in a series of attacks targeting pastoralists and their livelihoods in parts of Plateau State, including Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu.
In recent weeks, similar cases of cattle rustling and attacks have been reported, with security forces recovering stolen livestock and pursuing suspects.
