Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl, Halira Ibrahim, from captivity in Sububu Forest, Zamfara State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Media Information Officer for the operation, Captain David Adewusi, said soldiers under Sector 2 of the 8 Division advanced into Indulumu and Ruduno villages, where they engaged insurgents in fierce gun battles.
The operation resulted in the safe recovery of the kidnapped girl.
“The rescue of Halira Ibrahim underscores the unwavering commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting innocent citizens and restoring peace across the North-West region,” the statement read.
Captain Adewusi added that several terrorists were neutralised during the encounters, while troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, one magazine loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition, and a pair of woodland camouflage uniforms.
Two motorcycles used by the insurgents for attacks and mobility were also destroyed.
He said the troops sustained their operational momentum by conducting further clearance operations across the forest, uncovering and dismantling several terrorist camps and support structures.
“This extensive exploitation of the forest has significantly degraded the terrorists’ logistical capabilities,” Adewusi noted.
