The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended the driver of an articulated truck following a serious head-on collision with a commercial bus along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at the Mosafejo–Aradagun axis of the expressway and involved a truck and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number FST 946 YK.

According to traffic officials, the crash happened when the truck driver attempted to make an illegal U-turn at an unauthorised point, leading to a violent collision with the oncoming bus.

As a result of the impact, three male passengers in the commercial bus sustained critical injuries.

LASTMA officers, working alongside operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), responded promptly to the incident. The injured passengers were rescued from the wreckage and immediately taken to a nearby General Hospital by FRSC officials for urgent medical treatment.

Traffic officials also moved swiftly to prevent further accidents by clearing the damaged vehicles from the road and managing traffic flow in the area. Security support was provided by officers of the Badagry Divisional Police Command.

Speaking on the incident, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, expressed sympathy to the injured victims and their families.

“Our thoughts are with the victims of this unfortunate accident. We wish them a speedy and full recovery,” Giwa said.

He warned truck drivers and operators of heavy-duty vehicles against reckless driving and disregard for traffic laws, stressing that such behaviour puts lives at risk.

“Illegal U-turns and other dangerous driving practices will not be tolerated. Drivers must strictly comply with traffic regulations as provided under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law,” he added.

Giwa reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to road safety, noting that enforcement, traffic control, and public awareness would continue to be strengthened to protect lives and property on Lagos roads.
