
United States President Donald Trump has boasted he had a little bit more speed than football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi during his time playing football.
In a brief interview with Futbol RCN and Noticias RCN, the US president shared that he played football but acknowledged he wasn’t on the same level as Ronaldo and Messi.
Trump addressed the audience alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
When inquired about whether he ever played football, the US leader replied: “Believe it or not, I did [play football], and I loved it.
“I was OK, I would not say I was Ronaldo or Messi. I was a little bit short of them.
“I had a little bit more speed, but I was fine. I loved playing football.”
Ronaldo and Messi are often regarded as benchmarks of greatness in football, thanks to their remarkable longevity and numerous achievements.
