President Donald Trump of the United States of America has stated that his decision to undertake military action against Iran was motivated by a desire to assist America’s allies in the region.
Trump emphasized that he will never permit nations in the Middle East, including “Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain,” to suffer harm.
While addressing the nation regarding the ongoing conflict, the US leader remarked, “We are now completely independent of the Middle East, yet we are present to provide assistance … We are not required to be there. We do not need their oil. We do not require anything they possess … Our presence is to support our allies.”
Additionally, the president expressed strong criticism of Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, reiterating his long-held disdain for that arrangement and praising his choice to withdraw from it during his initial term.
“The Iran deal he negotiated would have resulted in a vast arsenal of significant nuclear weapons for Iran,” Trump asserted.
Trump also refrained from directly addressing NATO, whose members he has criticized for their reluctance to help secure the Strait of Hormuz.
The ongoing conflict has caused a surge in oil prices as Iran has effectively closed the strait.
During his speech, Trump stated that Americans “do not require” the strait and that those nations that do “must seize it and value it.”
The president also asserted that once the conflict concludes, the strait will naturally reopen.
