Super Eagles forwards, Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu have maintained their impressive performances for Galatasaray and Trabzonspor respectively on Saturday, netting crucial goals for their club sides and entering record books.
Osimhen scored in Galatasaray’s 3-0 triumph over Istanbul Basaksehir during Round 26 of the Süper Lig.
His goal, which was the second for Galatasaray in the match, represented Osimhen’s 12th goal of the league season.
Osimhen found the net in the 66th minute, connecting with a perfectly placed cross from Yunus Akgun deep within the penalty area.
With a composed first touch, the Nigerian striker guided the ball into the top right corner, thereby doubling Galatasaray’s lead after Wilfried Singo had opened the scoring with a goal from a Noa Lang free-kick in the 57th minute.
This strike in the second half not only secured the team’s lead but also inscribed Osimhen’s name into the annals of the club’s history.
Osimhen has extended his impressive streak, having scored or assisted in nine consecutive Süper Lig matches.
During this stretch, he has found the back of the net nine times and provided four assists, showcasing a consistent ability to impact Galatasaray’s offensive play.
As reported by Opta Can, this streak is the longest recorded by a Galatasaray player since the data collection began in the 2014-2015 season.
Galatasaray sealed the victory in the 84th minute when Renato Nhaga, who was brought on as a second-half substitute, converted a well-timed pass from Yunus Akgun to make the score 3-0.
The win solidifies Galatasaray’s standing in the Süper Lig while also highlighting Osimhen’s record-setting performance.
His consistent scoring and playmaking abilities render him an invaluable asset for the Istanbul-based club as they progress in their league campaign.
In another match in Turkey, fellow Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu continued his outstanding scoring streak as Trabzonspor triumphed over Çaykur Rizespor 1–0 in the Turkish Süper Lig, with the Nigerian striker scoring the decisive goal to further his remarkable run in front of goal.
The Nigeria international found the net six minutes into the second half, finishing from close range after a precise cut-back from Oleksandr Zubkov.
The goal took Onuachu’s tally to 23 goals and two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to the Turkish side’s attacking success.
With the strike, the 31-year-old extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive league matches, having also found the net against Kasımpaşa S.K., Antalyaspor, Samsunspor, Fenerbahçe S.K., Gaziantep F.K., Fatih Karagümrük S.K. and Kayserispor.
The feat makes him the first player to score in eight or more consecutive league games for Trabzonspor since Burak Yılmaz in 2011.
Onuachu is also closing in on another milestone, as he could become the foreign player with the most goals in a single Süper Lig season for Trabzonspor.
The current benchmark is held by Georgian great Shota Arveladze, who scored 25 league goals in the 1995–96 season.
