The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of two children who fell into wells in separate incidents across the state this week.
According to a statement issued by the
Fire Service Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the first incident occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at about 8:53 a.m. in Kashirmo Village, Sarkakiya area of Dawakin Tofa Local Government.
The report stated that an 8-year-old girl named Zara’u Muhammad accidentally fell into a deep well, before rescue teams arrived local residents made frantic efforts to save her but were unable to reach her due to the depth of water level.
“Despite our special rescue teams, the girl died.” The statement added. The girl’s remains were released to Abdullahi Garba, the Ward Head.
In the second incident that happened today, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at about 10:02 AM, 6-year-old Ahmad Abdurashid fell into a well at Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area, in Dala Local Government.
When rescued, Ahmad was unconscious and later died. His remains were released to his father, Abdurashid in Dandishe Quarters.
The Director of Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas urged parents and the general public to take preventive measures.
He appealed to communities not to dig wells along roads or in open areas, and to ensure all wells are securely covered. He also advised parents to closely monitor their children’s movements to prevent similar tragedies.
