Two East Jerusalem residents arrested for alleged support for Hamas

Israeli police have arrested two Palestinian men from East Jerusalem on suspicion of incitement and expressing support for Hamas, authorities announced on Friday.

The first suspect, a hotel maintenance worker in his 30s, is accused of posting a series of inflammatory messages on social media.

According to police, one of the posts quoted a speech by slain Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, declaring:

“Hamas dedicates our souls, our blood, our family and our sons for the sake of Jerusalem. There is no such thing as the State of Israel whose capital is Jerusalem. Jerusalem is not for sale.”

The second suspect, a 46-year-old man, was allegedly found storing Hamas flags in his home. Police said the flags were seized during a raid on the property.

Both men remain in custody, and prosecutors are expected to file incitement-related charges in the coming days.

Police stated that the arrests were part of a broader crackdown on online activity linked to terrorism.

Officials said the suspects were identified through the “Special Awareness Operations Center,” a Jerusalem district unit established earlier this year to track digital incitement, particularly in the lead-up to Ramadan.

Authorities say dozens of similar arrests have been made in recent months as part of ongoing efforts to curb support for Hamas and other militant groups.
