Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade and the Buni Gari checkpoint in Yobe State, killing scores of terrorists and recovering arms and ammunition.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.

According to the statement, the terrorists launched the assault from multiple directions under the cover of darkness, but troops resisted the attack and forced the insurgents to retreat after a prolonged exchange of gunfire.

The military said no fewer than 50 terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while several others escaped with injuries.

It added that troops maintained control of the military formation throughout the attack, with no breach recorded at the camp.

The statement further disclosed that exploitation operations conducted after the encounter led to the recovery of several weapons and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns, Rocket-Propelled Grenade tubes, RPG bombs, ammunition boxes, magazines, and Improvised Explosive Device canisters.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also carried out air interdiction missions targeting fleeing insurgents along withdrawal routes, contributing to the casualties recorded among the attackers.

Troops and allied volunteer forces are currently conducting follow-up operations in the area to track fleeing terrorists and prevent regrouping.

The military, however, confirmed that two soldiers were killed during the engagement, while some personnel sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

It added that a number of military equipment, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and gun trucks, sustained minor damage during the battle.
