U-20 WWCQ: Falconets qualify for Poland 2026 despite defeat in Malawi

Nigeria’s Falconets booked a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite going down to a 2-1 defeat against Malawi in the second leg of their final qualifying round fixture in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Moses Aduku’ side won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Malawi made a good start with midfielder Faith Chimzimu putting them in front after  nine minutes.

The Falconets stood up to the pressure of their hosts for the remainder of the first half.

Chimzimu, who recently won the UEFA Europa League with Swedish club BK Häcken doubled Malawi’s lead four minutes before hour mark.

Nigeria reduced the deficit through Oscar Precious in the 62nd minute.

The Falconets maintained their proud record of qualifying for every editions of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Poland will host the biennial competition in September.
