The United States government has revoked the Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka’s visa to the country.
The playwright broke the news during a meeting with journalists at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island.
He said the U.S. consulate informed him of the revocation in a letter dated October 23.
Soyinka, who expressed surprise at the decision, however, said it may not be unconnected with his criticism of President Donald Trump’s policies.
The Nobel Laureate tore up his U.S. green card in 2016 following Trump’s victory in that year’s presidential election.

“It is necessary for me to hold this conference so that people in the United States who are expecting me for this event or that event do not waste their time.
“ I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me,” Soyinka stated.
