The United States Department of State has issued a security alert warning of a possible threat targeting American facilities and U.S.-linked schools in Nigeria, advising citizens to remain vigilant and adopt precautionary measures.
The warning was made public on Monday through a notice circulated by the U.S. diplomatic mission in Abuja.
According to the advisory, “The US embassy in Abuja informs US citizens of a possible terrorist threat against US facilities and US affiliated schools in Nigeria,” the notice said.
American citizens living in or visiting the country were urged to be alert and take steps to improve their personal safety in light of the potential risk.
The embassy further advised U.S. nationals to review their daily routines and remain cautious in public spaces.
“Increasing awareness of your surroundings, avoiding predictable routines, and reviewing general security precautions with your family can help reduce your risk,” it said.
Authorities, however, did not provide specific details about the origin of the threat or the individuals or groups that may be involved.

The security advisory comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions involving the United States and several global actors. On Christmas Day, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered military strikes in Nigeria, saying the operation targeted jihadist elements operating within the country.
The bombing followed earlier remarks by Trump in which he claimed that Christians were being persecuted in Africa’s most populous nation. That assertion, however, remains disputed by analysts and observers, who note that violence in Nigeria has affected both Christian and Muslim communities.
The latest warning also coincides with a broader global security alert issued by the United States after Washington and Israel carried out military strikes against Iran.
Iran has since responded with missile and drone attacks targeting neighboring countries aligned with the United States, further escalating regional tensions and prompting increased security concerns worldwide.
