‘The United States forces have launched a “powerful and deadly ‘ airstrike against the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Sokoto State.

The U.S President, Donald Trump, confirmed the news on his Truth social media platform late on Thursday.

He described ISWAP as ” terrorist scum,” and accused the group of “targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians.”

Trump said the U.S. military “executed numerous perfect strikes” on the group’s hideouts in the North-West state.

The Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth, also confirmed the news on social media.

He thanked the Nigerian government for its cooperation.

The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, later told the BBC it was a “joint operation.”

The minister did not rule out further strikes, saying this depended on “decisions to be taken by the leadership of the two countries.”

The U.S. leader had in November declared that the country would carry out military action in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militant groups.

In his Thursday’s post, Trump said “the U..S. would not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper under his leadership.”
