At least five Premier League teams are facing possible elimination from the Champions League following the first legs of the last-16 fixtures this midweek.
Of the six teams left in the competition, none of them picked up a win.
Only Arsenal and Newcastle were able to grind out draws, while Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool all lost.
Chelsea were beaten 5-2 at Paris Saint-Germain, while Manchester City suffered a 3-0 drubbing in the hands of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
On Tuesday, Liverpool lost 1-0 to Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid thrashed Spurs 5-2 at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Newcastle almost claimed a win at home against Barcelona, but Harvey Barnes’ effort was cancelled out by Lamine Yamal’s late penalty. The second leg will be played at the Camp Nou.
Arsenal also needed a late Kai Havertz penalty to draw 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen. Of all the English clubs, it is Mikel Arteta’s men who have a great chance of qualifying for the quarter-final, as the second leg will be played at the Emirates.
