Barcelona defender, João Cancelo, has named teammate Gavi as the soul of the Blaugrana.
Cancelo spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg tie with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
He described the Spanish midfielder as a cheerful guy who makes Barcelona players start bringing more intensity.
“Gavi is the soul of the team,” Cancelo said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“Everything he does, on and off the field. He’s a really cheerful guy who lays into you during training sessions, and in the end, that also makes us all start bringing more intensity.”
Gavi joined Barcelona’s youth team in 2015 from Betis. The 21-year-old was promoted to Barcelona’s first team in 2021.
