Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, has insisted he heard the alleged racial remarks used by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni on his team-mate, Vinicius Junior.
The Champions League knockout play-off was paused for 10 minutes after Vinicius initially refused to play on following Prestianni’s comments.
Vinicius had just scored the only goal of the game with a sensational finish, when he clashed with Prestianni, who pulled his shirt up over his mouth before saying something to the Madrid striker.
Referee Francois Letexier was forced to pause the game for 10 minutes after the incident.
“The number 25 from Benfica – I don’t want to say his name, because he doesn’t deserve it,” Mbappe told reporters after the game.
“He pulled up his shirt [to cover his mouth] and said ‘Vinícius is a monkey’ five times.
“I heard it, there are players from Benfica that heard it too.”
