Former Sporting CP right-back, Virgílio Lopes, has warned Arsenal about his old club ahead of both sides’ UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie in April.
He cautioned the Premier League leaders that Sporting is capable of beating any team in the Champions League following their comeback victory against Bodø/Glimt in the Round of 16 stage.
According to him, the Portuguese side had defeated Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the past.
“Sporting has the quality and conditions to beat any of these teams,” Virgilio said as quoted by Metro.
“We have already beaten Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and several clubs, and now it is another one.
“It is a matter of having the same spirit from (the comeback victory against Bodø/Glimt in the Round of 16 second-leg tie) in these games.
“In terms of quality, we are very similar, so if we work harder than Arsenal, we will have an advantage.”
